The Fellowship Desires to Protect You (LR)

Through the first theme for the Lord of the Rings, we focused on the awesome God with a grand design inviting us into that design and to be a part of His story. He created you in His image and chose you to be part of His plan. As a man created in His image, you desire to protect and provide, to love and be loved, to give and receive honor, and to express and hear well done.  As a woman created in His image, the desire for creativity and beauty are large.  Other desires and longing can be found in the heart of a woman,  I’m sure some that I listed here for men.

Through the second Lord of the Rings theme, we focused on God’s choosing you and giving you a unique part to play in His Story. He created you, chose you, adopted you and set you apart for His purposes for all eternity. Your life is a praise to His glory. Your part is to reveal Christ right where you live. That begins with being a man or woman who engages with strength and love offering your world life and growth. The way to discover your part is to fully surrender, offer Him your heart, be willing to suffer for His sake so that you might experience His resurrection, life and glory.

Through the third Lord of the Rings theme, we focused on the truth that Evil seeks to destroy and defeat you and take you down. Satan is hunting you and desires to lure you and causing you to loose your way. God, however, meant for you to live in His grand design, His story and the part He created you to play. Satan seeks to steal your part in the Story, kill your heart, and destroy or diminish your influence in your part of God’s world. We are in a battle for our hearts and the hearts of those we love!

Evil is Hunting You (LR)

Evil is hunting you and will use whatever means to take you down and out of the battle. …for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and the forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12) In I John 2:16 we learn that we are vulnerable to lust and pride. Our eyes and our souls are tainted. The sin nature exists in us and we will never be totally free of it until we move from this life into the next kingdom.

Roles and Assignments (LR)

Pause. Rest. Reflect on who Christ is to you. Open your heart to Him. Worship. Bow. Adore Him. Let His life-giving Spirit come to you.

Now read and reflect.

Put On the New Self – ESV

Colossians 3:1-4 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your[a] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

The Crowning of Peter (LR)

Connected to God’s choosing us is His calling us out for our part to play in His Grand Design. Today we are looking at Jesus’ interaction with Peter. In contrast to the sons of Eli, who were honored by God, but faltered in the follow up; Peter is called out, honored by Jesus in Matthew 16. See verse 13 to the end of the chapter.

Here Peter gets it! He knows and understands who Jesus truly is. He speaks it. Jesus affirms him.

Later, Jesus is conveying what must happen to Him. None of the disciples understand Jesus’ trials. They remember the angels words to Mary in Luke 1–about the Kingdom lasting forever. Peter responds to Jesus statements, “may it never be!” Jesus then rebukes Peter.

This is a difficult passage for me. I have great lessons to learn from the interaction of Jesus with His disciples here. Jesus knew what was in the hearts of His disciples. Their hearts were full of sin and distorted thinking. Yet, Jesus finds the good. He affirms Peter for getting it right when he does.

Eternity in Our Hearts (LR) 1

“…be still…and know…that I am God…” We need times of stillness. Times of stillness when we focus on our Maker, Creator, Redeemer. This is a good time to be still. If not, come back when you can reflect and be still.

We look at several Scriptures this year which deeply touched my heart! I want your heart touched by the joy and love placed there be your Creator.

Let’s start by examining a verse.

A Challenge (LR)

We are on an adventure here. I’d love to hear from you about how you are affected by what you read here in 2013–either on this blog or other places.
I’d love for you to see significant change, or at least begin a journey where change starts. Real change happens within. Real change begins with truth–seeing truth and then wrestling with truth. We have to come before God and ask Him what He sees, what He wants in us, what His desires are. Because you see, you have desires too, but the beautiful desires within are those placed there by God Himself. That’s right, God places His desires in our innermost parts. Seeking out those desires helps us get in touch with God and what He wants for us.

Go ahead, you can do it!!!

You can do it!! You can change.

Connected to the Trinity (LR)

What does connected to the Trinity mean? Before I get into that let’s look at two passages.  Remember, quiet your heart in whatever way the Lord leads and be still.  Contemplate and reflect on these Scriptures.

Genesis 1:1-2 and John 1:1-5

God made all of creation. We were created by Him. We were created for Him–to worship Him and to carry out His will on earth.

We were created for Him. Do you get that? God does nothing without purpose. His purpose in you is, believe it or not, to fulfill your desires. Why do I say it that way? Because as a child of His you have desires placed in your heart by the Father. In His grand scheme, His desire is for you to awaken to your desires–desires given to you by Him. You have a part to play in His larger story.

Think of your God this way: He is truly a community of love–perfect love.

EPIC: We All Live in an EPIC (LR)

If you are reading this blog as it comes, this is an extra entry which you have already read. This is a summation of the Lord of the Ring Trailer themes and John Eldredge’s summation of his EPIC adventure portrayed in video.

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Trailer

The Lord of the Rings is a great epic with many parallels to life for those of us who are not living an epic. Or, are we? Maybe, there is more significance to this life than I glean from it. Maybe, I missed something fulfilling. ;I believe these themes apply to a larger audience.

After this whole complex tale was born in the mind of one simple man. I use simple reverently, but to emphasize that he is humanity just like you and me. Tolkien created one of the biggest epics of all time. I don’t want to lower the emotional energy, tireless thought, and hard work he put into this epic. I am so glad he devoted all that he did to create the novel trilogy that has been finally delivered to us in a movie trilogy.

Back to my points, I ask you to view the trailer to see how the themes portrayed there apply to you individually. I believe the 4 themes displayed on the screen have eternal significance. I also believe they apply to all of us.

EPIC: We All Live in an EPIC Acts 3&4 (LR)

Eldredge gives us a vision here of the beauty and majesty of the Creation act with so much honor and glory given to the Creator. All of creation worships the Creator. The Creator loves His creation. We, the created, were created to love Him back.

He gives us a hint of the backdrop of the Lord of the Rings. We were made for this. We were made for more. We all long for Eden, and all that comes with it–the ultimate home going, being in His presence.

The Fall portends the Evil that hunts us to this day. Beware!! Don’t betray your Savior or His salvation and Glory or your brothers and sisters.

EPIC: We All Live in an EPIC! Act 1 (LR)

John Eldredge sets up here what we are made for. What will fulfill us as Christ followers. Are you ready? Please listen.

We are meant for relationships, from the beginning. Our God is very relational and desires relationship and intimacy with us. Find out more of what He desires and what you are made for.

Guys, I so relate to his farm stories. I grew up on a farm and I so long to get back there. My wife grew up swimming. She longs to be near the water. What great longings for the past are in your heart? Do you want to see those longings fulfilled?

Any time you see LR in the title of a blog this year, it stands for Lord of the Rings or Lord Reigns. It’s a hint that the blog is about the themes delivered in the Lord of the Rings trailer.
