The put down of an evil such as I’SIS requires resolve. I see less resolve to fight evil in this world. I sense in America a “it is someone else’s problem, not mine/not ours” attitude.
This is not an ordinary Christmas message but I see so much evil I feel I must say something. Jesus came to put down evil. He stated forcefully: “The devil comes only to steal, kill and destroy…”
Evil hunts daily/nightly. Evil does not stop. What are we going to do about it?
Edmund Burke in his day understood and so do some in our day. But, to be honest, most of us are blind to what it takes to put down evil and what are the consequences if good men, good women and good nations do nothing.
The Vicar of Baghdad, Canon Andrew White, who is himself a refugee from Baghdad, explains the evil of ISIS terrorists:
“ISIS turned up and they said to the children, ‘you say the words that you will follow Muhammad.’ The Children, all under 15, four of them, they said, ‘no, we love Yasua [Jesus]. We have always loved Yasua. We have always followed Yasua. Yasua has always been with us.'” White said. “[The Militants] said, ‘say the words!’ [The Children] said, ‘no, we can’t do that.’ They chopped all their heads off.”
I remember the good words in October, 2014, of Canada’s Prime Minister Harper after two Canadians in uniform were shot down by a terrorist:
This week’s events are a grim reminder that Canada is not immune to the types of attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world.
We are also reminded that attacks on our security personnel and our institutions of governance are, by their very nature, attacks on our country.
On our values, on our society, on us, Canadians, as a free and democratic people who embrace human dignity for all.
But let there be no misunderstanding.
We will not be intimidated.
Canada will never be intimidated.
Support those who stand for us and against evil in all forms. In my thinking, that includes local law enforcement, sheriffs, state patrols, all branches of the armed services, the FBI, the CIA, the Congress and the President. I am sure I have left off some who should be mentioned. These help keep us safe.
There are others like the Vicar of Baghdad who are fighting for freedom and justice around the world who should also be applauded by us. Honor and support these men and women.
