What do we Worship?

What is the truth that Jimmy Needham comes to which he reveals in this short talk to one of his concert crowds?

Here it is. It is worth repeating because you may not listen through the video.

Jimmy reads through the Old Testament. He gets down to Jeremiah 2. He sees the truth. God turns on lights for him. What is the truth?

He sees God’s people take water from God and put the water in pots that leak. What does that tell you? That tells me, they don’t value the water, or that they believe there is so much water, they can always get more. Either believe is disregard for God and His goodness towards them.

Jimmy had told a story about his own eating disorders. I believe his journey down that road allows him the wisdom to connect this sin of the Israelites, to the sin of the people who followed Jesus around until He offered them bread.

Jimmy concludes, we have idols. The eternal God offers us water and we put His water in leaky pots. The eternal Son offers his people bread and they reject His offer.

Jimmy further concludes, God offers us water and bread, which sustains us. We reject Him because we believe we have something better. Jimmy tells us that if we believe we have something better than the water and bread that God offers, we have idols.

There is nothing in this life, better than the water and bread that God offers us. We are to receive and partake freely of His bread and water. His bread and water give us life. All other idols lead only to death.

Let us freely partake of the water and bread that leads to eternal life.
