Moving to the Dark Side (LR)

We don’t have to look far to find darkness, no farther than the House of God.

To set the stage for Samuel’s crowning, I Samuel 2 contains Hanna’s Prayer.

Hanna’s Prayer is a beautiful worship of her God.  Her prayer has a warning, however, “the wicked shall be cut off in darkness” and immediately the narrative turns to the wicked sons of Eli.  Eli allowed compromise in the service to the Lord. But his sons were the main culprits.  They sinned against God in the execution of the sacrifices of the people of God, 2:25 & 29.  but his sons were worthless though they were.   They lay with women, they abused their privilege during the sacrificial process and dishonored God.  God said He will put them to death (2:25).  Because of their disobedience, Eli’s line was removed from the earth (2:33).

The Lord did not leave Israel in a lurch.  He provided priests and he raised up Samuel.

Christ followers take heed.  Don’t go the way of the house of Eli.  They saw a horrible end.

Go the way of Samuel.  Samuel was one who listened to the Lord.  He eagerly waited for God’s voice.  I love the visual given there–he “let none of His words fall to the ground.” (3:19)  Eli’s sons were not listening.  They were careless.  As a result, they lost.

What did they lose?  They lost honor and glory.  Our glory is to honor God.  When we do.  He honors us and allows us to reflect His glory.  That’s an awesome honor.   I want Him to get glory.

What is in your life that is not honoring to God?  Do you desire to honor Him?  What could you do that reflects more of  God’s glory?

God is worth it–worth all the honor and glory we show Him.  Think about how you can change and how change allows more of God’s glory to shine in you.

Ask God to show you where you are not honoring Him.  Then, freely offer that part of your life to Him.   If you do that, admit your failure, He will take your life and make something beautiful.

Any time you see LR in the title of a blog this year, it stands for Lord of the Rings. It’s a hint that the blog is about the themes delivered in the Lord of the Rings trailer.
