Eternity in Our Hearts (LR) 1

“…be still…and know…that I am God…” We need times of stillness. Times of stillness when we focus on our Maker, Creator, Redeemer. This is a good time to be still. If not, come back when you can reflect and be still.

We look at several Scriptures this year which deeply touched my heart! I want your heart touched by the joy and love placed there be your Creator.

Let’s start by examining a verse.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (King James Version)
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

New Living Translation
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

He has placed eternity in the human heart. What does that mean? How do we experience that? Communion with Him through prayer and seeking Him in His Word is one way.

There is another way. He as given us this earth with all its beauty, majesty, and splendor to see and to respond in worship. He has also created us to respond to His creativity.

He’s placed creativity in the heart of man. Tolkien is a great example. Tolkien was an extremely creative man. In fact, I’d have to think hard to come up with a more creative person–and that, based on my limited knowledge of him.

He gave us an epic, The Lord of the Rings. Great epics touch us and draw out of us our longings and desires. Why is it that great epics move us the way they do? I believe it is because they touch desires deep within us. We emotionally connect with the characters and are deeply moved by what we see going on in their story. That response is sometimes negative and sometimes positive, is exciting and sad at times.

I want to stop here and reflect on this connection between our hearts and epics.

What are some of your favorite epic reads or movies?

What is it that draws you to these movies/stories?

What about those movies/stories stand out to you?

What desires or longings of yours do they expose or reveal?

Do you have a sense of how God wants to fulfill your desires? He wants to see your desires fulfilled because He placed in your heart. Seek him about how He wants to fulfill the desires of your heart. He is a big God–big enough to meet your needs and fulfill all that He has placed in your heart. Believe Him! He wants to support you through the fellowship.

Any time you see LR in the title of a blog this year, it stands for Lord of the Rings. It’s a hint that the blog is about the themes delivered in the Lord of the Rings trailer.
