One Sunday I heard a visiting pastor in the pulpit. He spoke on Isaiah 6. He attempted through the sermon to show us how holy God really is and how awestruck we should be by Him and His holiness.
I left thinking that he missed! Because he was visiting and the audience did not know him well enough and the time was so short for them to come to grips with the deep truth.
He missed for me anyhow. But I did hear him on one point. That “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts–the whole earth is full of His glory.” The pastor noted that Jehovah is referred to being this holy times 3 only one other place in the Revelations.
That’s when the blessing ensued. I read Revelation 4 and 5 Sunday afternoon and I was overwhelmed with the magnificence of my God. He is so, so, so worthy of my praise! I could not worship Him enough–even if I, from this point forward, continually worshiped Him every second of my existence.
This Great God, His wonderful attributes, and these beautiful scriptures have been on my mind all week.
I am not worthy of all the gifts of grace He offers me.
The Throne in Heaven
1 After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. 3 And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, 6 and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like
I am excited about this throne in heaven and who is on the throne. One who is soooo holy, I am not worthy to say His name, nor to be in His presence. But, I want to be there. Let me worship now.
6 And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: 7 the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. 8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
The only other place in all of scripture “holy, holy, holy” is seen and used is in Isaiah 6. When it is uttered there–the earth shook violently at the sound of it, but more in response to who is being honored when those words were uttered. Isaiah’s response was:
Isaiah 6:5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
Our God in Heaven is so other, so awesome, so majestic, so mighty that I can only fall on my face and begin to utter with the four living creatures who surround THE throne: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was (for all eternity) who is (for all eternity) and is to come!.”
Thank you Spirit, that you have come; that you dwell with me, in me; that you carry me into my day–into my part to play in the lives of others today. Bless through me today. I receive you love, care, tenderness and through your power extend that love, care, and tenderness to those around me. God help me be that in your Kingdom today. Amen!
Let us praise the Living God!
9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
I fall down before Him who is seated on the throne of honor and worship Him who cares for His children so mightily!! What a fantastic day He gave me!!!!!!! He lifted my spirit by His spirit. He rewarded this lowly peasant who seeks Him but not even diligently!! Thank you Spirit for allowing me to commune with Jesus and to see His glory in this day. Blessing and honor belong to you and you alone! Glory, and power and dominion are His attributes. He IS the one we worship and adore because of His magnificent gifts of grace including eternal life.
The future is ours!! The future is the saints of the ages worshiping our Redeemer/Creator for ever and ever. I want to be one of 24 elder bowing before Him and giving Him honor forevermore. Join me in worship of the risen King of all Kings and glorious Lord.
